The First Annual Erin M. Garry Memorial 5K

The First Annual Erin M. Garry Memorial 5K honors the life of Erin Garry, beloved daughter and sister, fierce friend, fearless school leader, brilliant teacher, star athlete, and more. It is impossible to describe all of the ways Erin’s life impacted the people she knew and the communities she was a part of. Erin spent her last months striving for equity for students at Bronx Letters: fundraising for laptops, hand-delivering devices to students in need, ensuring that families impacted by COVID had financial and emotional support, grappling with how to support the community in the wake of horrific police brutality.

Since June 4, 2020, the world has been dimmer but Erin’s mission still resonates. The First Annual Erin M. Garry Memorial 5K commemorates Erin’s enthusiasm for running and her dedication to Bronx Letters. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Erin M. Garry Post-Secondary Award, which will be given each year to a graduating senior at BAL who strives to embody Ms. Garry’s spirit and legacy in their post-secondary plan.
