Education for Children with Disabilities

Children with disabilities sometimes can not access the education they need due to the limited amount of special schools. Special schools for children with disability are also usually located in the center of the town which can not be reached by people from rural areas, despite these unlucky children’s desire to enjoy education.

Knowing this problem, regular school must attempt to help. Regular schools are much more in number than special schools. But, regular schools do not receive children who need special treatments like children with Down syndrome and autism. It is the time for regular school to consider accepting children who need special treatment. Teachers in regular schools also have to open their mind and heart to accept these difficult students. Blending students with disabilities with “normal” students as if they are equal could be a very good treatment for them.

Moreover, there are theories that stated that the best treatment and education for children with disabilities are to blend them with other “normal” children. In some kindergartens and elementary schools which blend normal children with disabled children, the teachers said that children with autism and Down syndrome have better progress. These children would feel challenged to catch their “normal” friends’ progress.
